“This is an image of an animal retreating on an ice-sheet in the sun. It was made on Khuvskul Lake in Northern Mongolia in 2018. It shares a moment from a part of the world where humanity and nature live in a more connected way than most of us get to experience. Already extreme conditions in Mongolia mean that climate change is a contributing force to human migration, death and a loss of culture. After seeing these changes in Mongolia for 6 years it has become impossible to come back to Australia and not see the same forces at play. It makes me question whether us humans have any control over our fate collectively?”
